Next time we’re preparing for posting, I want to do it differently. We’ve been dragging out our goodbye to Ottawa for weeks, eating “last” doughnuts (I think we’ve had our last doughnuts half a dozen times now) and squeezing in a few more weeks of Arabic classes. Now our stuff is gone, and we have five more days in our empty apartment (well, empty except for an air mattress, a great dane, and an open bottle of sriracha we couldn’t pack).
Next time? We’ll set our move date for a month before our posting and I’ll take time off work. We’ll do all our paperwork early, then as soon as the moving truck pulls away, we’ll hop in a car and go on a road trip to the east coast, or go camping or hiking; we’ll fly halfway to post and spend some time exploring a new place.
But we’re still on this time, so I’ll try not to let my butt go numb from sitting on the floor and enjoy my doughnuts while I still can.
